Vintage Japanese Wooden Storage Box for Hanging Scroll  

Hand-crafted and light wood color, this sturdy and slender wooden box is made to store a hanging scroll, or kakejiku. The lid is step-top and fits flush on the top. The inside features two adjustable wooden brackets used for securing a scroll in place.

Typically on display in Japanese tokonoma alcoves in homes and other traditional establishments, hanging scrolls have various themes, from seasonal images to poems to Buddhist text and imagery. For additional decorative detail, it’s popular to add scroll weights, or fuchin, which are tassels with heavy polished stones that hang from the bottom end caps.
