Vtg Japanese Cake Mold, Candy Mold Kashigata  

Japanese kashigata are hand-carved wooden molds used to make higashi since the Edo period. Higashi is a broad category of wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) and is a low-moisture treat made with soybean flour or rice flour, fine sugar, and other ingredients. These materials are packed tightly into kashigata molds and dried to create beautiful designs and shapes. Many of these sweets can still be found in wagashi shops and grocery stores.

This wooden mold is one panel and in a paddle shape with six round slots that will make a half-sphere shape when used. Each little mold has a モ (mo) katakana character.
