Vtg Japanese Obijime Kimono Belt Accessory

This is a Japanese vintage obijime. This particular style is called marukuge and is made of silk cloth with plush stuffing and short end tassels. It is an alternative to standard braided obijime. A solid black with a subtle floral pattern, this cord is flexible and easy to tie.

An obijime is a braided cord that wraps around the outside of the obi sash to keep it in shape. Because there are limitless colors, materials, and styles, they are often used as a decorative accent for kimonos in addition to their main function. Obijime is only used for women’s kimonos, not men’s kimonos.
