Vtg Japanese Paper Cow Figurine Akabeko

This is a vintage Japanese traditional craft Akabeko. Akabeko is a papier-mâché that resembles a red cow. It is a local toy of the Aizu region (Fukushima Prefecture) and has been used by children to ward off evil and illness. The red color of the body is an amulet, and the black spots represent smallpox.
