Vtg Japanese Obijime Kimono Belt Accessory

This is a Japanese vintage obijime. A combination of light pink and beige with simple gold accents, this wide and flat (hiragumi) style traditionally braided kumihimo cord is flexible and easy to tie. It is unique in that it is made of two separate pieces that connect at the middle to form a decorative knot. 

An obijime is a braided cord that wraps around the outside of the obi sash to keep it in shape. Because there are limitless colors, materials, and styles, they are often used as a decorative accent for kimonos in addition to their main function. Obijime is only used for women’s kimonos, not men’s kimonos.
