Vintage Japanese Wooden Snack Bowl

This is a Japanese vintage lidded snack bowl, or kashiki. This brown bowl is handcrafted from a piece of solid wood (cross-section of a tree trunk). The side feels the texture of tree bark, while the inside and bottom are lacquered, showcasing the wooden grain. It has an inscription on the bottom.  It is typically used for serving snacks, such as senbei crackers or sweets, to guests in one’s home, business, etc. It is also commonly used in tea ceremonies to serve and display traditional sweets. It can also be used for multipurpose functions such as holding fruit.
