Vintage Japanese Lacquered Wooden Rice Container 

This is a lidded Japanese cooked rice storage bowl container, or gohanki/ohitsu. It is dark brown outside, and vermilion inside. The lid fits the container perfectly. It is a deep round bowl typically found in restaurants, traditional ryokan inns, etc. This item includes a rice paddle, which can be cased in this container.
