Japanese Wooden Kokeshi Doll Figurine

This vintage Japanese wooden kokeshi doll figurine represents a performer of the Shishi Odori, a regional folk performing art from Hanamaki (Iwate prefecture). Their costume consists of a black and blue cape, and a black mask of a deer, similar to a lion dance’s mask. The performer is playing the drums while dancing. The doll comes in a paper box. Kokeshi dolls are traditional toys that can easily be used for decorative purposes.
