Vtg Japanese Izumeko Basket Doll

This is a vintage Japanese basket baby doll called izumeko. It is a traditional handicraft from Yamagata Prefecture that features a baby swaddled in a straw or rush basket with small toys. These dolls were modeled after the method of carrying and keeping babies pre-war in the Tohoku region. Mothers packed their babies into small baskets to keep them near, but still allow them to do farming work during the day.

• Good condition considering age. Some discoloration on fabric. Some small marks on face and hands. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
