Vintage Iron Branding Stamp
This is a vintage cast iron branding stamp called yaki-in. This piece is meant to be placed over fire or coals and is used to mark wood, leather, fabrics, and most famously traditional Japanese sweets and snacks such as manju, dorayaki, senbei, etc. It features a countryside mountain valley landscape complete with river and bridge. There are Japanese kanji and kana characters, but the last kanji has worn away with time. It says “Hometown…” (furusato no… ふる里の…). It has old cloth wrapped around the handle to prevent burns during use.
