Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a view on the sea with waves and a big wave crushing at the center. On top of the sea is a round red sun. This piece is signed with a red seal. 

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
