Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a waterfall surrounded by trees in the mountains. At the bottom, three men are looking up at the waterfall, one of whom is pointing at it. This piece is titled and signed with a name and a red seal.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. It was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan and has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake uses Zen words in the tea ceremony room, and Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
