Japanese Picture For Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This vintage Japanese picture is for a hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono). It features an illustration of a red sun rising above the sea. The branch of a pine tree can also be seen. This piece is signed by an artist Shunpu and red seals.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
