Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (called kakejiku or makimono) features a solitary pine tree, matsu in Japanese, with several birds, likely cranes (tsuru in Japanese). Some of the bords are flying in the sky. This scroll is painted in color. This piece is signed with a name and a red seal.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
