Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features two blue, white and red birds and a maple tree with green and orange leaves. This type of scroll is called kacho, literally flowers and birds. This specific scroll is about Fall. This piece is signed with a name and a red seal, and it has a label on the outside.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
