Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a landscape of mountains surrounded by clouds. Small houses and a river can be seen, as well as a lot of small details. There is some text at the top of the composition, likely the title and some poem written in Chinese characters. This piece is signed and has several red seals.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
