Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features two brown and black little birds sitting on the branch of a plum tree bearing blossoms. Vertical black bamboos are painted on the right, and a poem is written vertically on the left. The piece is signed with a name and a red seal.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
