Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku 

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features calligraphy painted in black ink. This scroll is signed with a name and a red seal. 

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.

• Scroll approx. 187 cm long x 43 cm wide (ends) x 40.5 cm wide (paper)
• Good condition considering its age. Small water stains, small stains. The end cap missing. Tear in the middle of the picture. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
