Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This vintage Japanese monochrome hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features bamboo stems and leaves painted with black ink. They grow on a cliff. On the right, there is text written in calligraphy. This piece is signed with a name and red seals. The base of the scroll is an elegant dark floral pattern. 

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
