Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features calligraphy of Nami Amida Butsu. All around that central calligraphy, there are 33 names and goshuin red stamps of sacred places from the Saikoku 33 Sacred Places pilgrimage. The base of this scroll features a beautiful dark blue and gold floral pattern.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
