Vtg Japanese Boys’ Day Taiko Drum Display w/Box

This is a vintage Japanese taiko drum display set out during Boys’ Day (also known as Children’s Day). This amazing, eye-catching set has three drums resting on a black lacquered stand. Each drum has a sparkling brown body with gold heads as well as purple braided silk tassels. Both the drums and the black and gold lacquered base have metal chrysanthemum-shaped decoration. The stand has two white and red silk tassels and gold metal embellishments. It comes with the original paper box.

Gogatsu-Ningyo (May dolls) are amulets wishing for the health and growth of children that are displayed during the Boys’ Festival. Other items such as armor decorations, helmet decorations, and warrior dolls (warlords) are also popular.
