Vintage Japanese Katagami of Lucky Zodiac Rats w/ Plastic Frame

In a brown and gold plastic frame, this katagami textile stencil made of mulberry paper displays the image of two rats around a pouch labeled “fortune”. These two themes together mean this image is zodiac and New Year-related.  
While katagami is typically used for printing images on fabrics such as kimono, it has become a popular item to frame and or further decorate for wall art. As such, its intricate designs made by hand-cutting the paper make it a wonderful piece to use in home and office decor.
The katagami is adhered to the shikishi board behind it.

• Approx. 38.5 cm high x 35.5 cm wide x 3 cm deep
• Good condition considering its age. The area around Kanji is a bit discolored. Rough patches where the adhesive has pulled up the paper background. The frame has some scratches and chips. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
