Vtg Japanese Clay Bell Dorei 

This is a vintage Japanese clay bell, Dorei or Tsuchi-Suzu from the Shinshu area, Nagano. It features a textured design, a paulownia crest on one side, and kanji characters on the other side. It has a clay ball inside, a braided brown cord, and a paper tag tied to the loop. 
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits..
