Vintage Japanese Clay Bell Dorei 

This is a vintage Japanese clay bell, or dorei. Representing the animals of the zodiac, this bell is in the shape of a smiling sheep. It is mostly white with gold and red accents and a plum blossom multicolored fan sticker on the display side. It has a small white clay ball inside and has a red cord tied at the top via a loop.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.
