Vintage Japanese Clay Bell Dorei 

This is a vintage Japanese clay bell, or dorei. Representing the animals of the zodiac, this bell is in the shape of a smiling sheep. It is mostly white, with purple horns and a red collar with bronze bells. The display side has bronze accents and a multicolored sticker featuring Japanese lucky plants, pine trees, bamboo, and plum blossoms. It has a small white clay ball inside and has a red-and-white braided cord tied at the top via a loop.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.

• Good condition considering age. Some scuff marks. Scratches and coming off of paint on the face. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
