Vintage Japanese Clay Bell Dorei 

This is a vintage Japanese clay bell, or dorei. Representing the animals of the zodiac, this bell is in the shape of a rabbit. It is a white with red accents and holds a red apple in its paws. It has a small brown clay ball inside and a braided gray (faded from purple) string attached at the back.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.

• Good condition considering age. Some scuff marks. String is faded from purple to gray. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
