Vtg Japanese Clay Bell Dorei 

This is a vintage Japanese clay bell, Dorei or Tsuchi-Suzu. This dorei is in the shape of a bridge/fence finial called giboshi and is an iconic decoration in most traditional architecture. This one is dark green color (to mimic aged copper) and has a gold painted plaque on the front with some kanji. There is a small clay ball inside as well as an orange string tied at the top.
Dorei bells have a long history and have been used in festivals and ceremonies since the Jomon period (about 13000 to 2300 years ago) when they were said to have the power to ward off evil spirits.

• Good condition considering age. Some scuff marks and discolorations. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
