Vintage Japanese Ceramic Suiban for Ikebana Flower Arrangement

This is a vintage ceramic Japanese flower vase, or suiban. This style can also be a ceramic version of an usubata, a traditionally bronze floral vase with a removable wide-mouthed top piece. This piece is large and round with a blue (celadon) glaze and a soft pink accent in a ring on the inside and outside. It balances on a small pedestal.
Suiban means “water tray” and typically houses the spiked weight (kenzan) that hold ikebana flower stems in place, but can also be used as a base for a flower pot, or even a potted bonsai.
