Vintage Japanese Ceramic Suiban for Ikebana Flower Arrangement
This is a vintage ceramic Japanese flower vase, or suiban. It is glazed a simple crackled beige. It is round with a cutout rim that has an angular pattern.
Suiban means “water tray” and typically houses the spiked weight (kenzan) that hold ikebana flower stems in place, but can also be used as a base for a flower pot, or even a potted bonsai.
