Vintage Japanese Ceramic Suiban for Ikebana Flower Arrangement
This is a vintage ceramic Japanese flower vase, or suiban. It is glazed with a matte light gray to almost black gradient on the outside, but has a beautiful glass/water-like glaze on the inside. It has a mostly flat inside space and stands on a short pedestal foot.
Suiban means “water tray” and typically houses the spiked weight (kenzan) that holds ikebana flower stems in place, but can also be used as a base for a flower pot, or even a potted bonsai.
