Vintage Japanese Ceramic Suiban for Ikebana Flower Arrangement
This is a vintage ceramic Japanese flower vase, or suiban. It is a simple rectangular shape and glazed with a medium blue color. There is a vertical rectangular pattern on the sides for decoration. It sits up on four small legs.
Suiban means “water tray” and typically houses the spiked weight (kenzan) that hold ikebana flower stems in place, but can also be used as a base for a flower pot, or even a potted bonsai.
