Japanese Uchishiki Embroidered Buddhist Altar Tablecloth

This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist altar tablecloth or uchishiki. Made of silk, the backside is white with a cloud and dragon pattern, while the front side is a very light beige/cream with large pink and purple chrysanthemums bordered with gold.
Uchishiki is mainly used by followers of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism on the upper table (Maejyoku) and the front table (Uwajyoku) in the Buddhist altar during events such as New Year’s Day, the equinoctial week, Obon, and memorial services.

• Good condition considering its age. Deep fold creases on the top corners. Brown stains on front and back side. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
