Vtg. Japanese Buddhist Altar Decorative Fabric Pillow

This is a vintage Japanese pillow/cushion stand. It is used for decorating Buddhist altars and acts as an accessory to important religious items. Due to its square shape, this particular piece is likely used for mokugyo, a fish-shaped wooden drum used to keep time during chants. It is purple with beautiful gold chrysanthemum and vine design and has small tassels on each corner. There is a rigid material inside to keep the stand firm, but still has some plushness to it.
