Vintage Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Drawer

This item comes from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. This deep, long drawer is mostly coated in classic black lacquer. The front contains an exquisite makie village scenery design with the sea, trees, and buildings.

In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a “small temple in the home”.
