Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Flower Vase Set

This is a pair of vintage brass metal flower vases, hanatate, for Buddhist altars. These particular vases are very simple in design with no added embellishments. They can hold individual or very small collections of flowers.
It is common practice to offer a range of seasonal and symbolic flowers in front of a Buddhist altar. It is also a vessel for Sakaki leaves or Shashagi leaves in Shinto. The meaning of offering sakaki tree leaves is that the gods living in the sakaki tree will protect the grave and the soul.
