Japanese Buddhist Offering Stand Kuge Set

This is a pair of vintage offering stands called Kuge for the Buddhist altar in Japan. Cut in a floral shape with a removable top piece resembling a flower, this pair is painted with gold and yellow lacquer. It is a utensil for offering rice cakes, fruits, Rakugan sweets, etc, and is mainly used by the Jodo Shinshu Honganji sect of Buddhism. Each of the stands easily comes apart. This pair is cased in a wooden box and there is an handwritten sentence on the backside of the lid.

• Good condition considering its age. Gold lacquer wearing in some places. Some discolorations. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
