Vtg Japanese Spiritual Tablet Ihai

This vintage Japanese lacquered wood ihai, or mortuary spiritual tablet features the Dharma name or kaimyo, a posthumous name given to dead people, on the front and the name of the dead, his day of birth and his day of death on the back.

Ihai mortuary tablets are usually placed inside butsudan Buddhist altars in Japanese houses.
