Japanese Buddhist Altar  Candle Snuffer 

This is a vintage Japanese candle snuffer made of metal in the shape of a small bell. It is used for extinguishing burning candles on a Buddhist altar and is a useful accessory for any butsugu set. The use of a snuffer helps to avoid problems associated with blowing hot wax and it avoids the smoke and odor of blowing a candle out.
