Vintage Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Drawer

This item comes from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. This shallow, short drawer is mostly coated in glossy, classic black lacquer. The front contains intricate brass metal border embellishments along with a window/handle that features a beautiful hand-painted gold makie depiction of two ducks floating on the water.
In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a “small temple in the home”.
