Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a picture of a white dragon holding a ball. The piece is painted using only three colors: white, black, and gold. Yet, it is a very powerful image. This piece is titled, signed, and has a red seal. The title is written on the outside of the scroll. The wooden box has inscriptions and a label on the outside and the inside of the lid.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
