Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Scroll

This Japanese vintage paper hanging scroll (kakejiku) features an image of Rennyo, a Buddhist monk head of the Honganji temple of the Jodo Shinshu sect. It is a side scroll, or wakigake, part of a pair of scrolls to be displayed on each side of a central scroll or a statue. It is a powerful religious image, aimed to be at the center of an altar. This kakejiku is dark blue and red with a gold floral pattern. The image is black, gray, green, and red.
