Antique Japanese Pottery Sake Bottle Kayoi-Tokkuri
This is an antique Japanese ceramic sake bottle. It is called a Kayoi-Tokkuri and is used to pour sake. The commuting sake bottle became popular as a rental container for liquor stores in the Edo period when sake began to be consumed on a daily basis. This bottle is white with some black Japanese kanji characters on the outside. It has an opened hole on the bottom to facilitate pouring the sake as well as an opening on the top, closed by a metallic part. The top of the bottle is bended.
