Antique Japanese Pottery Sake Bottle Kayoi-Tokkuri 

This is an antique Japanese ceramic sake bottle. It is called a Kayoi-Tokkuri and is used to pour sake. The commuting sake bottle became popular as a rental container for liquor stores in the Edo period when sake began to be consumed daily. This gray bottle has brown characters.

• Some characters: 三方町 Mikatacho town name, 吉 Yoshi (吉 surrounded by a circle, Maruyoshi, is a liquor shop name and the logomark), 五三五 535 (might be a block number of the shop or the bottle number)

• Approx. 14 cm wide x 25.5 cm tall
• Good condition considering age. Glaze imperfections from production.  Slightly wobbly. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
