These shrines are always placed above eye level and away from doorways or anywhere someone may walk under. It is also unanimously understood that kamidana be placed as the highest shelf in a room. Inside, they typically house various items such as shrine charm (ofuda) and a small round mirror (shinkyou) which acts as an item to attract the kami associated with the shrine.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis particular vintage shrine is made of wood with gold resin decorations on the edge of the roof and on the door.. The door panel can open and is removable for easy access to the inside.
