Japanese dolls, known as "ningyō," hold a deep cultural and historical significance. We can trace their origins back to ancient rituals meant to ward off evil spirits.

Recently, Chidori Vintage was approached for display ideas for small dolls and statues.  We recommended using Japanese Kadai Display Boards.  

Sake barrels play a prominent role, serving as symbolic offerings to deities and representing the connection between the spiritual and human realms.

Japanese pottery, or "yaki," started back in the Jomon period from 14,000-300 BCE. They made pottery using the coil and paddle method and decorated it with cord-marked designs.

Japanese wooden Kashigata cake molds are used to make Japanese sweets called Higashi. They come in many unique shapes such as animals, flowers, etc.  They are unique pieces of art with a range of spiritual meanings in Japanese culture.

Chidori Vintage finally moved out of our old warehouse space in Nakamura Koen in Nagoya. Our new space gives Chidori Vintage plenty of space to grow and expand our inventory selection.

When I started Chidori Vintage in 2008, I was running it out of my apartment. In my living room I started by selling Japanese tools. I slowly expanded to my second item which was Japanese Katagami.

Back in July of this year, Chidori Vintage received an email from a movie and TV show set design company about supplying Japanese antiques for a TV mini series for the new Apple streaming service.  

oday we acquired a beautiful Shinto shrine bell from a local shrine in Nakamura area in Central Nagoya.

Katagami are paper stencils that are used to print the beautiful colors and patterns that you see on Kimono and Obi. They are made from multiple layers of washi paper that are treated with special glue made from Persimmon juice, which makes the paper strong and flexible.
