Japanese Lacquered Wooden Haribako Sewing Chest

This is a Japanese sewing box, also called Haribako. Lacquered with a striking deep red color, it is decorated with a handcarved stalk of bamboo as well as a scaly/hammered design. This tansu chest has two drawers with simple metal hardware. This beautiful piece can also be used for storing jewelry or other trinkets.
