Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Part

This item is a decorative border part from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. This piece is lacquered with gold paint and has brass metal border embellishments. The main feature is a collection of intricately carved wooden peony flowers (botan) along with birds. There is incredible 3D depth to the design of this piece, and it is visually interesting to look at. Use it as a replacement part or as decoration.
In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a “small temple in the home”.
