Antique Japanese Postcard
This antique Japanese postcard is a commemorative item issued by Nagoya City and marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Japan’s education system (Gakusei Hanpu). It features an illustration captioned ‘terakoya’, meaning ‘temple school’, an early form of education in Japan during the Edo period: a group of young students sitting on tatami mats are practicing calligraphy. The postcard features decorative illustrations and texts.
