Vintage Japanese Natural Gourd Bottle

This Japanese naturally dried large hyotan gourd was not only made for storing and carrying sake and seeds, but also as a good luck charm for display. It features a unique dark brown color (likely stained darker) and an individual curvy shape. It has a functional bright blue string tied intricately around it. There is a polished stick cork that fits in the top hole and is secured by the blue string. It does not stand on its own.

As a good luck charm, hyotan gourds symbolize the prosperity of descendants, preventing illness, and the success of a business. These gourds are also known to be hung at the entrance of a building with the lid off to protect entrants and the home from bad luck.
