Antique Japanese Wooden Box Dried Bonito Shaver Plane

This is an antique Japanese wooden box for a shaver or plane used to shave dried bonito and make bonito flakes, though it doesn’t include a blade. It is a box with a drawer and has a square hole on the top. After setting a plane on the square hole and shaving dried bonito, the shavings are placed in the drawer. Many Japanese dishes use bonito flakes, such as making soup or Dashi, or as seasonings or spices.
